Bring Your Own X is an exhibition responding to reassembly and disassembly as part of Singapore Design Week. It is part of the “Reinvention” programme presented by Singapore Science Park, and curated by OuterEdit.
Inspired by Bring Your Own Beamer (BYOB) popularised by Anne De Vries and Rafael Rozendaal, BYOX envisions a dynamic exhibition shaped by interaction between visitors and the work. Designers and technologists are invited to submit plug-and-play, interactive installations using microcontrollers, sensors, artificial intelligence, robotics, mixed reality and digital interfaces.
Organised by Yeo Ker Siang

🌀 13 Sep (Sat), 4:00PM–6:00PM: Opening reception and panel
“Assembling Futures: Designing the Hybrid Nation”
Explore how Singapore is continually shaped, reshaped, and negotiated through acts of design, technology, and innovation. Drawing from the core ethos of BYOX, panellists will discuss the role of interactive technologies in actively assembling and disassembling societal narratives, urban environments, and cultural identities. This dialogue will examine Singapore as a hybrid construct and synthesis of man-made innovation, where the people participate in an ongoing design experiment. The conversation invites participants to envision and critically engage with the possibilities of Singapore’s future identity, exploring how designers, technologists, tradition, and communities collaboratively shape the nation through creative technology and design.
🌀 17 and 19 Sep (Wed and Fri), 1:00PM–1:45 PM: Lunchtime curator’s tour
Yeo Ker Siang will introduce the concept behind BYOX, explain what “creative technology” means in this context, and guide you through the interactive works. Come ready to explore, reflect, and play.
