Tusitala is a digital storytelling studio that creates novel literary experiences. Our work takes many different forms, from digital adaptations of poetry and fiction to extended reality interactives and more.

Our goal is to craft memorable experiences for the contemporary reader with innovative design augmented by creative technology.

We work closely with partners and collaborators to produce bespoke storytelling projects that are interactive, memorable, and impactful. We do this by exploring topics and themes, publishing original digital stories, and creating interactive, artistic experiences.

Our name

‘Tusitala’ means ‘teller of tales’ in Samoan. It was the nickname given to Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson by the locals of Samoa, where he spent the last years of his life collecting and telling stories. Our work embodies the spirit of a storyteller: using different mediums and techniques to weave narratives that entertain, inspire, and provoke reflection.

Our values

Our logo is a kitsune: a fox in Japanese folklore that can shapeshift and cast spells of illusion which others see, feel and perceive as real. Their powers grow with age, and nine-tailed foxes are the oldest of them all.

Inspired by the kitsune’s intelligence and mischievousness, Tusitala’s values are:

Knowledge

We believe reading shapes how people think and act. In a fast-paced world, stories challenge us to interpret nuance, understand different perspectives, and dare to imagine possible worlds.
Creative rebellion

We continuously push ourselves to challenge conventions, embrace risk, and redefine storytelling boundaries, crafting immersive experiences that defy expectations, and ignite readers’ imagination.

Versatility

We pride ourselves for being adaptable, eclectic, and open to new perspectives. We experiment with different genres, mediums, and platforms in the  process of creative adaptation, tailoring our approach to each new project.

How we work

We develop projects in close collaboration with partners, both corporate and creative.

Our team provides expertise in project management, design, and web development at every stage of a project, from concept to execution:

  • Project conceptualisation and management
  • User research and design
  • Graphic, interaction and user interface design
  • Web development
  • Event organising and management
